Gimme Shelter

Gimme Shelter, conceived by Swedish architect Emelie Holmberg, is an extraordinary self-build project nestled in the pristine woodlands of Vaddo, Sweden. Born from Emelie's vision of a flexible, remote lifestyle, the concept evolved into a low-cost, two-structure dwelling, addressing changing living patterns influenced by the pandemic. The 32 sq m living unit and the 10 sq m bedroom unit are linked by a sheltered outdoor space, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living. Large windows offer panoramic views, and sliding wooden panels draw inspiration from Swedish barns and Japanese architecture. Emelie, deeply involved in the project, sees Gimme Shelter as a prototype for future housing, offering modular solutions through her company of the same name, envisioning a Lego-like system for customizable living spaces.

VINTAGE MOTORCYCLE LAMP

A few days ago, we featured a stunning custom motorbike (Yamaha XS650 custom) by the talented John Ryland. He recently contacted us showing some of the creative work he does besides awesome bikes. He and his wife are making lamps out of recycled vintage bike parts, all lamps are custom made from retired components from up to three different vintage motorcycles. Theres no telling what adventures your lamp had in its previous life....

OPENHOUSE | BY XTEN ARCHITECTURE

Built by the Xten Architecture studio, the OpenHouse lives up to its name as seen by the pictures. The elegant and beautiful interiors have full visibility to the outside world. The house was built on a challenging site, embedded into a narrow and sharply sloping property in the Hollywood Hills. The front, side and rear elevations of the house slide open to erase all boundaries between indoors and out, connecting the spaces to gardens on both levels....

Short of opening a bottle with your teeth, we can think of a more manly way to crack a cold one than with a demilitarized .50 caliber bullet casing…which is exactly what this is. Made in the good ole US of A out of military grade ammunition, this bottle opener is probably the only way most of us are ever going to handle a fist-sized .50 cal round, but we e ok with that....
